You can apply tape at home yourself. It's easier than people think. But a few things have to be right.
Start with clean, completely dry hair. Oil and product are the enemy - they make the tape let go. Wash with a clarifying shampoo the same day, and skip conditioner at the roots.
Part your hair into straight, horizontal rows. Leave at least one centimetre down from the scalp, so you have room to move the tape up later without it showing.
Place one strip underneath and one on top of the section of hair, so they clamp together around your own hair. Press hard for ten seconds. Heat helps - many people gently press with a flat iron on the outside, never directly on the tape.
Skip the bottom few centimetres at the neck and around the face. That should be your own hair, so the edges look natural.
Move the tape up every six to eight weeks as your hair grows. That way you use the same set over again several times.
If you're nervous the first time, book a stylist for the application itself and do the upkeep yourself. Then you see how it's supposed to be done.
